Create a scene in a paint program.
Use naturalistic forms, shapes, and details.Avoid visual symbols such as the sun with "spider leg" rays coming out. Have students address the questions of what the sun or moon really look like and how to show it.
I did this unit with 4th grade students while I was student teaching in 1998, and they achieved very creative and naturalistic scenes. It was great fun!
